Fluctuating Reading

The following are some of the problems encountered by customers who purchase electromagnetic flowmeters

Case 1: Resolving Fluctuating Readings in a Chemical Plant

Customer Issue:

A chemical plant reported that their electromagnetic flow meter was showing fluctuating readings, making it difficult to accurately measure the flow of sulfuric acid. This led to inconsistent dosing and potential safety risks.

Our Company’s Response:

Our team conducted an on-site inspection and identified two issues:

  • Grounding Problem: The flow meter was not properly grounded, causing electrical interference.

  • Air Bubbles: Air entrainment in the pipeline due to improper installation.

We re-grounded the flow meter and recommended installing an air release valve upstream of the meter. Additionally, we adjusted the flow meter’s damping settings to stabilize the readings.

Case 2: Fixing a No-Reading Issue in a Water Treatment Plant

Customer Issue:

A municipal water treatment plant reported that their DN40 electromagnetic flow meter had stopped displaying readings entirely. This disrupted the monitoring of water flow and threatened the plant’s ability to manage supply and demand.

Our Company’s Response:

Our technicians diagnosed the issue as a

in the flow meter’s transmitter. We replaced the module and conducted a full system check to ensure no other components were affected.

Additionally, we discovered that the meter’s electrodes were coated with a thin layer of sediment, which we cleaned using a specialized solution.

Case 3: Addressing Inaccurate Measurements in a Brewery

Customer Issue:

A brewery noticed that their electromagnetic flow meter was providing inaccurate readings during the transfer of wort (a liquid extracted during the brewing process). This led to inconsistencies in batch quality and wasted raw materials.

Our Company’s Response:

After investigating, we identified the following issues:

  • Improper Calibration: The flow meter had not been calibrated since installation.

  • Pipe Misalignment: The meter was installed in a section of the pipeline with uneven flow profiles due to nearby bends and valves.

We recalibrated the flow meter and recommended relocating it to a straight section of the pipeline, at least 10 pipe diameters downstream from any bends or valves.
