Application Cases of Radar Level Meter in Light Industry

Among the old customers that Auto cooperates with, there is a light chemical company. There is a wide variety of raw materials during storage and transportation, and the on-site storage tank area is huge. Liquid level monitoring has always been a problem for this customer. Due to the requirements of the safety supervision department to strengthen production safety management, it is necessary to add a liquid-level measurement method to the tank. After many investigations, they believed that Auto's radar level meter could fully meet their measurement requirements.

The liquid level measurement of heavy oil has always been a troublesome problem that has not been effectively solved for many years. The company has also been using the traditional method of manual measuring ruler to control the liquid level of the storage tank. Workers have to go up and down 15-23m high winding ladders many times every day, enduring high-temperature baking of oil, which is labor-intensive and unsafe. In addition, the discontinuity of manual monitoring cannot prevent can accidents. Therefore, it is urgent to choose a practical liquid-level measuring instrument. In 2018, the company successfully applied an Auto radar level sensor on a heavy oil storage tank.

The calibration results show that the test data of the radar water level sensor has high accuracy and repeatability. When the tank stops operating, the accuracy compared with the manual ruler is within ±4mm; under dynamic conditions, it does not exceed ±17mm. The radar level meter can accurately measure the liquid level in the storage tank and can meet the requirements of process monitoring and liquid level measurement of heavy oil storage tanks.

Due to the high accuracy of the radar level transmitter, which fully meets the measurement requirements, the original need to manually check the dynamic tank level every two hours was changed to once per shift, which greatly reduced the labor intensity of workers.

The use of radar level transmitters also reduces risks in tank farm operations. First, the number of times workers go to the tank is reduced after using the radar level sensor, thereby reducing personal safety accidents; second, the radar water level sensor can continuously monitor the liquid level, ensuring the oil level of the storage tank.

After adopting the radar level transmitter, since it is a non-contact measurement, the clogging of the measuring instrument caused by the high viscosity and many impurities of heavy oil is avoided. In addition, the system has strong corrosion resistance, is easy to clean, has high precision, has no moving parts, works reliably, has a low failure rate, and can be maintenance-free. According to statistics, compared with the static pressure measurement system, the maintenance cost can be saved by up to 20,000 yuan/tank·year, which greatly reduces the number of maintenance times and reduces the maintenance cost.

At the same time, the measurement management system attached to the radar level sensor can not only instantly display the liquid level on the computer in the operating room, but also display the instantaneous and cumulative amounts of the temperature, mass, volume, and other parameters of heavy oil, which is very convenient to use. As a widely used advanced measurement technology, the radar level gauge is not afraid of a variety of materials, making it the first choice in many industrial fields.
